Birding at Ter Apel (Klooster bos)

Today I drove to Ter Apel, to the forest surrounding the local monastery -het Kloosterbos-. Like last year (then accompanied by my brother Bert) trying to find and photograph Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Dendrocops medius. And like last year I succeeded. But the pictures aren't that good. There were also some Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Dendropops major, around. The latter species is far less rare in Groningen and the Netherlands.

After the walk through the forest (and a little waiting in the car for the Middle Spotted to show up) I tried some birding from the car in the envorinment of Ter Apel. I saw a pair of Grey Wagtails, Motacilla cinerea. All pictures I took of this species I deleted. The picture here is of a White Wagtail, Motacilla alba, wich was far more approachable.

The 'linked' bird names in this post link to my 'main' page (although the picture there of the Grey Wagtail is -probably- of another subspecies).
