Turkey

My parents and me visited Turkey in 1988. We drove all the way from Groningen, taking three days. We did some birding and site seeing on the west coast of the Asian part of the country, then drove on on the southern coast untill we reached Birecik, a small town just north of the Syrian border along the Euphrates.
During the trip we managed to see some good species. To name a few: Bald Ibis, Great Rock Nuthatch, Upcher's Warbler, Pied Kingfisher, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Yellow-throated Sparrow, Cream-colored Courser.
The best species, however, and without any doubt, was the Spotted Sandpiper, Actitis maculata, at Goksu Delta. A picture of it is repeated below.
The bird, partly in breeding plumage was present from 2nd august to (and including) 4th august. I wrote about this sighting in Dutch Birding magazine. The species was new to Turkey and the Middle East.
Another good species was this (probable) Pied Wheatear, close to Sparta, on the west coast of Anatolia (Asian Turkey). The bird stayed on our camp site at the end of july.
Both pictures aren't very good. They were taken as slides and recently scanned.
