Family

Iwe, Pia and Bert at Rietvlei, South Africa.

As mentioned on other pages on this blog, we go out birding as a family every now and again. And not only on holidays. On this page I'll introduce 'the others' in the 'de de bruintjes clan'.

Iwe de Bruin,

Iwe, in Wakkerstroom, South Africa

Iwe, shaking hands with a Jackass Penguin, Boulder Beach, South Africa.

father, teacher, linguist, (world) birder. Born in 1942. Married to Pia in 1963
Though he did not start us on our 'real' birding, he passed time in his youth in the field, watching and sometimes collecting eggs.

Pia de Bruin-Spaan,
Pia, here with Iwe (the one with the glasses), on the pelagic from Cape Town, South Africa

mother, born in 1944. Married to Iwe in 1963. Never a real twitcher she accompanies Iwe, and sometimes the brothers, on twitches, birding outings and holidays. She has a keen eye for finding the birds.

Bert de Bruin.

Bert taking pictures of a Curlew Sandpiper, Calidris ferruginea. The bird is also included in this picture.
Bert, also taking pics of the landscape in Karoo, South Africa.

Anne Karliczek. Surgeon, mountaineer, outdoors person in general. Married to Bert, and living and working in Bergen, Norway.

My (older) brother. Started our modern day birding when joining Aristoles, a club on the Praedinius Gymnasium, in Groningen. He got us all hooked, although the interest was allready there in Iwe and Pia. From there on it began.
In 2008 he, and his wife Anne Carliczek, moved from Groningen (where the both work in the same hospital as I do -Martini Ziekenhuis-) to Bergen, Norway.
Bert has his own blog on birding. More on his (birding) live you can read there.

And then, there's me. Sybrand. But, as this site is all about me, you can read that here on these pages.
Don't forget though, to visit my other websites:
